30/10/2011 Mixed Under 14′s v Southport
Morecambe’s Under 14 boys and girls played their first game of the season v Southport. This was a fantastic game played by both teams. Morecambe found themselves 4-1 up at half time with goals from Manklow (2), Till and Williamson. The second half saw Southport come steaming out of their blocks. They scored 3 goals and with the score at 4-4 both teams pushed for the winner. Southport got their 5th after their central midfielder burst through the box to score past Seddon. Both teams deserved a draw but this was great game by both teams.

Morecambe U15 4 – 3 Blackpool U15
Morecambe U15’s were eager for their first home fixture to get under way, and after a rousing team talk from Coach Davidson they were out of the blocks straight from the off.
Joe Davidson, Jonathan Seddon and Louis Hung were tearing Blackpool apart through the midfield with their silky passing and excellent movement off the ball. After a great move through the middle, Phoebe Hargreaves pounced on a loose ball in the D taking Morecambe into a well deserved lead. A second quickly followed when Yasmine Dodd drilled the ball into the D from the left and Sam Letcher hammered the ball home.
All credit to Blackpool they battled to get themselves back into the game and after two great saves from debutant goalie Michael Jones he could nothing to stop Blackpool finding the net from close range.
In the first half Morecambe had the majority of possession, however the second half was end to end. Morecambe’s defence of Jess Cook, Natalie Abbott and Josh Hulme were called into action on numerous occasions, but stood solid denying Blackpool early on. After a great clearance from Hulme out to Jack Harrison on the right wing, he ran at Blackpool’s defence. Then with a pin point pass he found Seddon who, from an acute angle, fired the ball into the far corner.
With Morecambe 3-1 up Blackpool pressed on and scored 2 goals in quick succession which could have taken the wind out of Morecambe’s sails. But they rallied together and fought back, with Davidson unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
With not long to go it looked like the points would be shared until Harrison, on the reverse stick, squared the ball into Theo Hargreaves who slammed the ball into the back of the net.
A nervy couple of minutes ensued with Blackpool really pressing for an equaliser, but Morecambe held out for a great win.
A fantastic display by both teams and a fantastic result for Morecambe. Well done to everyone!
