Junior training is held late August – mid March each Season.
Morecambe Hockey Club are always looking for new players to join their junior section. If you would like to play hockey and are aged 6 to 16 please contact Hayley Johns on 07837576922 for more information.
We welcome both boys and girls of all abilities and various size hockey sticks are provided by the club, which can be borrowed free of charge.
Training is 10.30am – 11.30am on Sundays at the University of Cumbria’s Astroturf pitch, Lancaster and costs £2.
If you are not sure whether you think training is on due to the cold/frozen weather then please call the University of Cumbria (Lancaster) on 01524 526526
How training works:-
There are 3 groups created at training:-
Beginners (normally under 9’s)
Intermediates and older beginners (aged between 7 and 13)
Intermediates and advanced (aged between 9 and 16)
Both male and female players train together.
Warm up for 5-10 minutes, split into groups as above. Spend the next 35-40 minutes working on various skills depending on ability and age. The last 10-15 minutes are always finished with a mini game in the groups.
There are between 5 and 7 coaches present at each training session. Gordon Davidson is Level 2 qualified so is in charge of the training schedule. Hayley Johns, the Junior Co-ordinator, is the person to contact with any queries about training, games, registration, feedback etc.
To join your parent needs to fill in the registration form which you should bring with you to your 1st training session. To download a copy of the registration form, click here, alternatively contact Hayley Johns.
You must wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions; astro boots or trainers and shin pads are compulsory. Gum shields are recommended.
Parents are welcome to come down and watch training sessions and games. If parents are interested in volunteering they should speak to Hayley Johns, Junior Co-ordinator about how you can become involved. There are many ways in which you can help out such as, umpiring, transporting children to and from away games, coaching etc.
