Morecambe Hockey Club is always looking for new players to join their junior section. If you would like to play hockey and are aged 6 to 16 please contact Nina Swarbrick on 07734822273 for more information.
We welcome both boys and girls of all abilities and various size hockey sticks are provided by the club, which can be borrowed free of charge.
Training is 6-7pm on Tuesdays at the University of Cumbria’s Astroturf pitch, Lancaster and costs £2.
How training works:-
There are 3 groups created at training:-
Beginners (normally under 9’s)
Intermediates and older beginners (aged between 7 and 13)
Intermediates and advanced (aged between 9 and 16)
Both male and female players train together.
Warm up for 5-10 minutes, split into groups as above. Spend the next 35-40 minutes working on various skills depending on ability and age. The last 10-15 minutes are always finished with a mini game in the groups.
There are between 5 and 7 coaches present at each training session. Sue Horrobin is Level 2 qualified so is in charge of the training schedule. Nina Swarbrick, the Junior Co-ordinator, is the person to contact with any queries about training, games, registration, feedback etc.
To join your parent needs to fill in the registration form which you should bring with you to your 1st training session. To download a copy of the registration form, click here, alternatively contact Nina Swarbrick.
You must wear suitable clothing for the weather conditions; astro boots or trainers and shin pads are compulsory. Gum shields are recommended.
Parents are welcome to come down and watch training sessions and games. If parents are interested in volunteering they should speak to Nina Swarbrick, Junior Co-ordinator about how you can become involved. There are many ways in which you can help out such as umpiring, transporting children to and from away games, coaching etc.
Players aged 10+ play for a team named Morecambe Beavers. They play around 8 games per season, which are arranged with local teams by Morecambe hockey club.
Morecambe and District Hockey Club recently achieved Club 1st status. The Club has successfully completed the assessment process and following an
independent Nominated Officer’s visit to the club has received the honour of being accredited by England Hockey and has received Clubmark accreditation from Sport England. These are both nationally recognised awards that demonstrate Morecambe HC’s determination to provide a safe and effective club environment for the future of the sport.
