Fairhurst Makes 2nd Team Debut

Morecambe Ladies 2nds   2 – Preston Ladies 4ths   1                          (10/12/11)

A confident Morecambe faced Preston away on Saturday afternoon, an encouraging performance from a 10 man team lead to victory in the bottom of the table clash.

Morecambe were confident from the start and set out strong with some excellent passing through the centre of the field from Williams and Horrobin.

However it took Morecambe until the half time whistle to put the ball in the back of the net, which came from a superb short corner strike from Williams.

Preston struggled to work the ball around the pitch and could only rely upon there powerful hits to split the field.  However luckily for Morecambe Forrest was on hand to intercept these through balls.  In addition to the hard work put in by Liddle and Fairhurst who made her debut appearance for the 2nd team, and had an outstanding game, with the two girls playing come strong and encouraging passes down the right hand side.

Morecambe enjoyed the majority of posession and Willaims soon got her second goal of the game, from another well worked short corner.

The second half was even stronger for Morecambe, as Wilson,  Jackson, Forrest and Patterson were tight at the back not giving Preston any opportunity to get in to the D.

Preston came back with a goal from a short corner but Morecambe continued to battle on, and not let them have another chance.

A well-deserved win for Morecambe who are slowly making progress and developing as a team!

Team: Brockbank, Jackson, Forrest, Patterson (capt), Wilson, Fairhurst, Liddle, Horrobin, Williams and Cape.
